About Lisabi Day

Historical Background

Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, the legendary Egba warrior, rose from the town of Itoku in Abeokuta to liberate his people from Oyo Empire’s domination. Through humility, courage, and the Aaro age-grade society, he mobilized his community to achieve historic freedom.

Why It Matters

Today, Lisabi stands as a symbol of strength, unity, and cultural pride. The festival attracts thousands of Egba sons and daughters from across Nigeria and the diaspora, fostering heritage preservation and communal development.
